Before you can begin one of our programs, you must be given the all clear from your health professional at your postnatal check to start exercising again. This is anywhere from 6-10 weeks postpartum for a vaginal delivery and at least 12 weeks postpartum if you’ve had a C-section.
The great thing about our classes is that they accommodate for babies and toddlers of all ages and we have often been known to carry our own 3 and 4-year-olds while teaching the class! There are a couple of important points to note: your bub/toddler must weigh less than the recommended 15-20kg (depending on the carrier’s manufacturing warranty), and you both need to be comfortable.
Did you know? As your baby grows and their muscles become stronger, you can move them from your front and start carrying them on your back instead! And we can help you with that transition. What all this effectively means is that you are able to complete as many of our changing programs as you like, for as long as you and your little one enjoy babywearing.
For those bringing toddlers, for health and safety reasons we ask that you choose a spot to the side of the room so that your toddler has room to move around without getting under the feet of the other mums in the class. We advise bringing some snacks and toys to keep them engaged throughout the class if you don’t think they will want to dance beside you, but there are some super cute baby doll carriers on the market should they wish to be like mummy and join in the Kanga fun!

Babywearing safety is of utmost importance during Kangatraining. Due to the level of movement and physical activity, there are particular babywearing requirements we must adhere to, to ensure the safety of both mums and bubs. All carriers must meet T.I.C.K.S guidelines for safe babywearing and must support the baby’s natural sitting position (M-position - hip to knee). Babies must be worn facing you in the carrier, placed either on your front or on your back. Unfortunately, although completely fine for everyday use, carriers such as ring slings, stretchy wraps (e.g. hug-a-bub), carriers with little head support (e.g. Mothers Choice, Baby Bjorn), narrow based carriers (e.g. Baby Bjorn) and outward facing carriers are not suitable for Kangatraining and cannot be worn during class.
Several different types of carriers are suitable for Kanga, including Manduca, Ergobaby (excluding Embrace), Boba, Beco, Tula, Kinderpak and Mei Tai so you will need to source a Kanga-friendly option, or you are more than welcome to use one of our spare carriers for the duration of the program, just let us know asap if you would prefer this option so that we can reserve one for you.
If you do purchase your own, we are expertly trained in the best babywearing practices so can help you fit your new carrier at your first Kanga class. We highly recommend investing in the Ergobaby Omni Breeze as it is ergonomically designed to cradle your baby in a natural sitting position and to evenly distribute baby's weight between your hips and shoulders. Ergobaby carriers are the ultimate in comfort and longevity, allowing you to carry your baby from the early days, all the way into the toddler years. If you do choose this option, don’t forget to use our discount code (KangaCoorparoo) at checkout for 20% off full price items. Due to the fact that our Kangatraining and Mothers Group programs are so popular and book up lightning fast, we are unable to offer trials. It is also really important to us to ensure that the same group of mums attend each program from start to finish to develop a strong and meaningful connection with one another.
Due to the nature of our Kangatraining and Keeping Mum Mothers Group programs, we must close bookings to new registrants after week 2.
Our central purpose is to create strong relationships amongst the group, so we aim to avoid any disruption with new mums joining throughout the program.
Specifically in relation to Kangatraining, we focus on building strength and pace as the weeks go by, which will prove challenging to pick up part-way through.
If you’ve just missed out on this intake, simply join our waitlist to be the first to find out when bookings open for the next program. Click on the class you’d like to book into, enter your contact details and we’ll be in touch.
Kangatraining is specifically designed for postnatal mothers. If you become pregnant, please inform Kristelle and/or Jen as soon as possible. You will be provided with a big congratulations and have your exciting news kept confidential. We will discuss options for your classes including:
- Holding them until you are able to start again with your new baby; or
- Issuing a credit for other Keeping Mum services
We are following all Queensland health directives and have put in place the necessary precautions to protect our mums and babies. Your health and safety is of the utmost importance to us and we ask that you wipe down all equipment with the antibacterial wipes throughout the class.
We also ask that you not attend a class if you or your baby/toddler are experiencing any symptoms of illness, including fever, runny nose, cough, sore throat, fatigue, headache and shortness of breath.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide refunds due to a change of mind, illness, travel or other commitments. This is due to the time and costs associated with each registration.
That being said, we are very happy for you to attend another class in the same term to make up for the missed session.
So, for example, if you are on holidays and miss your Friday Kangatraining class, simply attend on Wednesday the following week. Or, if you're unwell on the Wednesday, feel free to join in on Friday instead. Just make sure you let us know!
